News Title: New features of Colmac’s AccuCounter® soil count system Date: 5/2/2008
News Item:

Colmac Industries, Inc. introduces several new features and upgrades to their popular AccuCounter® soiled linen counting system. Their patented Variable-On- Demand Vacuum System saves energy and maintenance costs, and provides longer motor life. The vacuum motor operates with controlled acceleration and deceleration and runs only when the operator is counting, not while sitting idle. The mechanical blast gate damper for controlling the vacuum is eliminated and there is no “dead head” effect by the vacuum motor. The system, therefore, uses less energy and moving parts, reduces maintenance, and decreases noise. With Colmac’s bulk classifier system, the fan motor also runs at various speeds depending on the need for vacuum demand from the workstations, which also saves energy.

Colmac has redesigned the AccuCounter® software with an updated operator interface screen. The user screen displays diagnostic information, photos of inventory items, and symbols to help the operator more efficiently control and monitor the system. Additional operator productivity averages are displayed, as well as a list of complaint reasons to choose from for alerting management of excess debris or hazardous items contained within a soiled linen bag. The operator is asked for the reason he is logging off the system, which is reported on the Operator Productivity Report.

The new AccuCounter® system uses Dell™ computers and other high quality, industry standard components offering greater reliability. A 15-inch industrial grade LCD touch screen monitor is also standard.

The AccuCounter’s® proprietary PLC logic has been redesigned to accurately count only one piece while the sensor is blocked. This becomes critical with wet bar mops and large tablecloths when vacuum decreases due to excess paper trash clogging the system.

Rounding out the system are galvanized metal vacuum transport tubes with quick-release clamps. Compared to traditional PVC pipe, these tubes offer a smoother inner surface, are not prone to air leaks, are easier to install, and allow for convenient access to jams.

News Title: Triple Connie Turbo, long garment press Date: 9/1/2005
News Item:

Colmac Industries introduces the TRIPLE CONNIE TURBO to join its family of triple shirt presses. Its rotating triple buck design offers extremely high production while producing a quality press on a wide variety of garment types – including lab coats, medical garments, executive shirts, chef coats, and other linen supply garments.

For the new Turbo model, Colmac engineers improved rotational time and reduced delays in the machine cycle. This creates a longer press contact and sleeve finishing time per cycle, increasing the quality of the press.

The versatile TRIPLE CONNIE TURBO design presses both the front and back of the garment, steam-air finishes the sleeves, and automatically unloads garments when the cycle is completed.

As a result of innovative Colmac engineering, the Triple Connie is the only triple buck press capable of pressing various length garments – long, short, and everything in between.

News Title: Enhancements to the AccuCounter® Program Date: 4/12/2005
News Item: Looking Up Ticket Number By Entering Account Number

Scenario: The operator encounters a bag of linens that is not tagged with the invoice / ticket number in the usual way. However, the operator knows the customer’s account number through some other means. The operator may enter the account number, push the appropriate key, and then choose from a list of available invoice numbers for that customer.

(see photo)

1. Enter the customer number instead of an invoice/ticket number.

2. Push the “Cust Lookup” button (See A). This instructs the computer to look up all invoice numbers that belong to the customer.

The computer will display all invoice numbers that belong to the customer, along with the delivery/pick-up date, and a brief description of the items on the ticket.

(see photo)

After it is determined which invoice number to select, push the area that contains the correct number under the column marked “TICKET” or “DATE”.

The invoice number that the operator chooses will now be displayed in the entry box. The operator can now push the green enter button as usual to begin counting.

Remember, the purpose of the “CUST LOOKUP” button is to use the customer number to find the correct ticket number for a bag of linens that is not tagged in the usual manner.

News Title: Colmac Leads in Automatic Pressing Date: 9/20/2004
News Item:

Colmac, via Technoschor, installed one of the largest automatic pressing lines in the world at a large textile rental company in Israel. The Colmac Triple Connie is the only triple buck long garment press in the world. As one buck is being loaded, another is performing the pressing operation, while the third is automatically unloaded – for the highest possible productivity. The sleeves and lapels are sufficiently finished in one step, eliminating the need for ancillary presses. A vacuum holding system is employed to leave no mark while pressing the entire garment body back and front.

Technoschor Laundry Service Ltd. installed six Colmac Triple Connie’s as replacement machines for three Colmac 3-CPU’s that were in operation at Unidress in Israel (see photo). Unidress needed the capability to press chef coats, lab coats and other longer garments, as well as a need to reduce labor costs. For more than ten years, Unidress had been running three 3-CPU’s with two production shifts. After replacing the equipment with Triple Connie’s, Technoschor developed an automatic custom screw rail system to collect garments from all six Triple Connie’s and deliver them to a folding machine.

The company was able to reduce its labor requirement to only six workers operating only one shift, while increasing production to (780) pieces per hour (see video). As a result of innovative Colmac engineering, the Triple Connie is the only triple buck press in the world capable of pressing various length garments – long, short, and everything in between.

Ilan Schor of Technoschor Laundry Service Ltd. commented to Colmac President, Scott McMillan, “Scott, we made the right move. We are very happy with our purchases, the high finish quality, and the mechanical structure of the Triple Connie.”

News Title: CoolMac™ Air Cooling Units Installed Date: 8/31/2004
News Item:

Colmac Industries introduces the energy efficient CoolMac™ Air-to-Water Heat Pump Water Heater for commercial, industrial, and institutional workplaces such as laundries, kitchens, and linen supply facilities.

While CoolMac™ captures unwanted excess heat from warm air generated in the work area, the heat is recovered and pumped into the hot water system where it can be utilized to heat water and reduce fuel consumption.

A lot of energy is required to heat water, and for operations that depend upon large quantities of hot water, the related cost drain is significant considering rising energy costs. Typically, the use of electricity and fossil fuels results in negative efficiency levels. For every unit of energy consumed, the system at best will gain about 0.95 units. With CoolMac™ in operation, the opposite occurs – for every unit of energy consumed, three or more units are gained.

The net result of heat pump technology and Colmac`s advanced engineering translates to operating efficiencies that range from three to six times more than conventional water heating methods. Using small amounts of electricity, CoolMac™ actually multiplies the absorbed heat several times, resulting in water temperatures that can exceed 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees C). The benefit is zero cost to generate heat, and only minimal cost to transfer it.

Since laundry, linen supply and kitchen work environments are plagued by excessive heat loads, most are not air-conditioned. Given today’s tight operating margins, the electrical operating costs to provide air conditioning would represent too large an expense for these businesses, and intense heat sources in their local work areas present additional design challenges.

A by-product is cooler, drier air that can be used to provide indoor spot cooling where large amounts of heat are generated in confined spaces. Instead of contributing to the building heat load problem, CoolMac™ captures heat rather than wasting it into the atmosphere. Every time the unit runs, it provides cool air for employees while supplying inexpensive hot water. In the process it also reduces the demand on other equipment, further decreasing overall energy costs.

Wade Linen Service in Columbus, Georgia installed two CoolMac™ HPA-11 air-source Heat Pump Water Heaters that provide 20-22 total tons of air cooling and 280,000-350,000 BTU/h total water heating capacity. Phase II of the Wade Linen installation included 33 ducted cooling stations. The pre-heating configuration for the plant hot water system accommodates approximately 1600 gallons storage. Wade Linen recently experienced 100 degree plus temperatures, and when asked if he observed increased employee productivity as a result of the CoolMac™ equipment, owner Tripp Wade commented: “our production has improved, and employee morale is definitely boosted.”

CoolMac™ makes your work force more productive by providing a cooler working environment, better ergonomics, and less heat stress.

News Title: Color-coded item selection screen Date: 4/13/2004
News Item:

Management people in a production environment are always looking for ways to increase operator productivity. Soil count operators using the AccuCounter® system for counting soiled linens have been offered two new enhancements to the software control program for doing just that.

Color-coded item selection screen

The operator of the AccuCounter® soil count station enters a customer’s account. Next, the operator is presented with a screen listing the numerous, sometimes lengthy choices of items to count. The operator may hastily make the wrong choice by not being familiar enough with the item or because of language barriers.

With the color enhancement option, various colors can be assigned to the background text of each item in the list. There is a choice of 13 colors that can be assigned to one or a group of items that has a certain meaning or category that the item falls into. The operator will be able to identify the type of item quicker and more accurately, thus making fewer errors when counting soiled linens.

Informative Attention Messages

A flashing, attention getting message can be displayed to the soil count operator for each customer account that is displayed on their screen. For example, “Watch for excess trash” can be displayed whenever a certain restaurant account is counted. The message text can be anything helpful for the operator that will alert him of any additional information he needs to know about the account. The color-coded items as well as the informative message text assigned to a customer account is easily maintained in the set-up screen in the AccuCounter® host program.

News Title: Colmac Announces New Tail Clamp for 3-CPU Date: 4/5/2002
News Item: Colmac Industries, Inc. has installed a new system for releasing the Tail Clamp on the 3-CPU Shirt Press. This new system is designed to reduce the loading time as well as improve the ergonomics of loading shirts. The new system does not use a mechanical pedal to release the tail clamp; instead it utilizes an electronic beam. The tail clamp releases from the pressing buck when the operator slides or places a foot between the sending and receiving units of the activation system. This eliminates the necessity of raising the foot to press on a pedal switch thus reducing ergonomic problems as well as the time required to load shirts onto the pressing buck. This system is standard on all Colmac 3-CPUs.

News Title: A New Drive System for Colmac`s 3-CPU Triple Shirt Press Date: 2/27/2002
News Item:

Colmac Industries, Inc. has announced that a new, top-mounted drive system for Colmac`s 3-CPU will be standard on all versions of this triple buck shirt press. The top-mounted drive system allows the pressing bucks to be positioned two inches (2") lower than previous models. This change greatly improves the ergonomics of loading shirts. Other great benefits are the reduction of maintenance items under the turntable. Since the top drive is direct, this has eliminated the belt and gearbox which were previously located under the turntable. This new technology comes as a result of Colmac`s continuing search for ergonomic and other improvements for its products.

News Title: Energy Savings and Productivity from Colmac Date: 8/8/2001
News Item:

Colmac Industries announces new features on our CFS 40 through 300 Series tunnel finishers. A new Instant Warm-up feature automatically turns on the steaming system to purge unwanted condensate from the steam jets and prepares the finisher for operation. An Automatic Shut Down feature has been added to conserve energy and prevent unnecessary heat and moisture from escaping into the workspace.

Our automatic loading system, precise steam and finishing/drying system results in simplicity of operation and increased production. Hangered garments are automatically processed through a steam chamber where they receive a soft steaming to relax the fabric preparing the garment for the finishing/drying chamber. The finishing/drying chamber is designed to bring thermostatically controlled, heated air over the garments gently removing the wrinkles. The air is then recirculated back to the blower for energy savings.

CFS Series tunnel finishers require very little operator training and outperform other methods of garment finishing. They were designed to increase the productive flow through the finishing department by reducing the amount of pressing necessary to achieve a quality, finished garment.
